Walkthrough
- Talk to all the people in the castle and then retire to your room at the top of the northwest tower. In the morning, you and Kain will leave the castle and your quest will begin.
- Head northwest from Baron and you will eventually find the Misty Cave.
- Take the treasures in the cave and fight the Mist Dragon. Don't attack him when he is a mist or he will attack you with ColdMist.
- Leave the cave and enter the village of Mist. The package from the king will open automatically and burn the town.
- Just above, you will see a girl who's mother died because you killed the Mist Dragon. When you try to take the girl with you, she will summon a Titan who will cause an earthquake and collapse the valley.
- When you regain consciousness, Kain will be missing. Take the girl with you and head north.
- Go northwest to the town of Kaipo. You will take the girl to the inn.
- In the middle of the night, soldiers from Baron will come and tell you hand over the girl. Once you defeat the soldiers, the officer will retreat.
- In the northeast building you will find Rosa who is sick. The old man in her room will tell you the SandRuby is the only thing that can cure her.
- Enter the Watery Pass northeast of Kaipo after you have raised Rydia's level for a while.
- Inside the Watery Pass you will come across the Sage Tellah who will ask you to help him rescue his daughter.
- Continue through the second area and you will reach a save point. You will rest for the night in Tellah's tent.
- You will find the exit for the cave just after the Water Pass-North. You should probably use a tent to restore you HP and MP and save your game.
- Enter the next cave and fall down the waterfall.
- Fight Octomamm in the lake. Once you defeat him you will leave the cave.
- As you approach Damcyan, it will be attacked by the Red Wings.
- Enter the caste and climb to the top. After Anna dies, Tellah will storm off to fight Golbez and Edward will join your party to help you find the SandRuby.
- Fly the hovercraft across the shallows to the east and enter the antlion's lair.
- Descend to the lowest level and fight the Antlion to retrieve the SandRuby.
- Leave the Antion's Lair and return to Damcyan. Fly over the shallows southwest of the castle to return to Kaipo.
- Enter the building in the northeast corner of the town and approach Rosa's bed. Use the SandRuby on her and she will he healed.
- Take the hovercraft back over the shallows to Mt Hobs, east of the Antion's Lair.
- Rydia will learn the fire spell and will melt the ice barrier so that you may proceed.
- Continue to the summit and help Yang, the Karate Man, fight the MomBomb. He will join your party.
- Continue across the mountain to the east side.
- Journey east for a while and eventually you will reach Fabul.
- You will arrive just before Golbez begins his attack and will have to fight several battle against invading enemies.
- Eventually you will retreat to the crystal room and Kain, who is under Golbez's spell will attack Cecil. Golbez will arrive taking the crystal and kidnapping Rosa.
- Rest at the inn where you will consider your next move. The King of Fabul will lend you a ship so that you may attack Baron.
- Leave Baron and enter the ship in the dock. As you sail toward Baron, Leviatan, the king of the seas will appear and the ship will be destroyed in a whirlpool.
- When Cecil comes to again, he will be alone on a strange coast.
- Enter the town of Mysidia. The people there will be quite hostile to you because of what you did at the beginning of the game.
- Speak to the village elder. He will tell you that you need to become a Paladin and will send Palom and Porom with you.
- Journey east until you reach Mt. Ordeals surrounded by forest.
- Climb to the summit. Along the way you will be joined by Tellah who is looking for the magic of Meteo.
- Fight Milon, the fiend of earth, at the summit. Once you cross the bridge you will fight Milon Z.
- Walk up to the stone monolith to enter inside. Cecil will become a Paladin and will have to fight a D. Knight. Do not attack the D. Knight to win the battle.
- Climb back down the mountain and return to Mysidia. Speak to the elder and he will open the Serpent Road.
- Enter the Serpent Road in the building on the east side of town to get to the town of Baron.
- Enter the inn in Baron and speak to Yang, who will attack you. After you defeat him he will return to himself and will join your party. He also has the Key of Baron.
- Open the door to the building in the west with the Key of Baron and descend into the Old Water-way.
- At the other end of the water-way you will be in Castle Baron's moat. Enter the castle through a door in the bottom-left corner.
- You will meet Baigan in the center of the castle, but he has been turned into a monster.
- After you defeat Baigan, speak to the king in the throne room. You will discover that Kainazzo, the Fiend of Water, killed the king and took his place.
- After you defeat Kainazzo, he will try to get revenge on you from the grave by causing the walls to squeeze in on your party. Palom and Porom will turn themselves into stone to stop the walls.
- Cid will show your party to the new airship he built. As soon as you take off, Kain will arrive and tell you to get the crystal of earth and give it to him in return for Rosa.
- Fly northwest to Toroia surrounded by forest. Speak to the eight clerics in the castle to discover that the dark elf stole the crystal and is in a cave in the northeast.
- In the west wing of the castle you will find Edward in bed. He will give you the TwinHarps.
- Leave the castle and head north to the Chocobo Village. Talk to a black Chocobo and fly to the island directly to the east.
- Enter Cave Magnes. Inside you will feel a strong magnetic force and anyone with metal weapons or armor will not be able to fight. Equip with non-metal equipment.
- Continue through the cave until you reach the Crystal Room. Confront the Dark Elf, but he will be too strong and will defeat your party.
- Edward will play his harp and the TwinHarps he gave you will synchronize his playing. Re-equip your metal weapons and attack the Dark Elf again.
- Take the Earth Crystal and leave the cave. Fly the black chocobo back to the chocobo village.
- Return to Toroia and show the eight clerics the crystal. Kain will tell you to enter your airship and he will take you to where Rosa is.
- Enter your airship and Kain will lead you to the Tower of Zot, where Rosa is being held.
- Climb up the tower and fight the Magus Sisters on the fifth floor. Defeat Cindy, the middle sister, first because she will revive the others when they die.
- Continue to the sixth floor to find Golbez. Cecil will give him the earth crystal but he will not return Rosa. Tellah will attack Golbez with Meteo but will die as a result.
- When Golbez leaves, talk to Kain, then rush to save Rosa in the next room. Rosa and Kain will join your party.
- As you try to leave, Valvalis, the Fiend of Air, will attack you. Use Kain's jump attack to stop her spin.
- Rosa will cast Exit and your party will warp to Cecil's room in Baron.
- Fly to the town of Agart south of Baron and use the Magma Key in the well. A big hole will appear outside the town.
- Get into the airship and land in the big hole to descend into the underground.
- The airship will be in the crossfire between the Red Wings and the dwarven tanks and will crash land.
- Enter the Castle of Dwarves and speak to King Giott. Cid will leave the party to repair the airship. You will enter the crystal room and have to fight Calbrena.
- After you defeat Calbrena, Golbez will attack. When only Cecil is still alive, Rydia will call a Mist Dragon to blow away the Shadow and will join your party to help you defeat Golbez. Even though you defeat Golbez, he will not be quite dead and will take the crystal.
- Speak to one of the dwarves in the basement of the castle you will open a door to their underground passage. When you reach the other end of the passage you will be to the west of the castle.
- Travel northwest and eventually you will see the Tower of Bal-il being attacked by the dwarves' tanks. Enter the tower and start climbing.
- Defeat Dr Lugue and his robot Balnab at the top of the tower. You will receive the Tower Key.
- Return to the 5th floor and use the Tower Key to unlocked the locked door. Defeat the Dark Imps inside and then Yang will sacrifice himself to stop the Super Cannon.
- Continue down to the first floor. As you leave, Golbez will speak and will destroy the bridge you are on. Cid will come to the rescue but you will still be chased by the Red Wings. You will fly to the upper world and Cid will destroy the hole with a bomb to stop the Red Wings from following you.
- Speak to Cid's engineers in the east side of Baron Castle and they will attack a hook onto your airship.
- Pick up the hovercraft near Mt. Hobs with the hook on your airship and carry it to Eblan in the southwest.
- Use the hovercraft to get over the shallows and into the Eblany Cave.
- On the second level of the cave you will find the survivors of Eblan here. They will tell you that the king and queen have been taken and that the prince is following them.
- Enter the Pass to Bal-il. At the end you will see Edge fight Rubicant and lose. Rosa will heal him and he will join your party.
- Continue into the Tower of Bal-il. Edge will show you a secret way into the tower.
- At the top of the tower you will find Edge's parents, but they have been turned into monsters. Eventually they will regain consciousness and will die.
- Fight Rubicant, the Fiend of Fire. Ice weapons work well against him, but magic is useless.
- When you enter the crystal room, you will fall into a pit and will drop to a lower level.
- Climb down the tower and you will eventually find an airship which Edge will name the Falchon.
- Fly to the Dwarven castle and speak to King Giott. He will give you the Luca Key so that you can enter the sealed cave.
- Speak to Cid who is recovering in the castle. He will modify your airship so that you can fly over the magma.
- Fly southwest to the Sealed Cave and use Luca's Key to open the door. Descend to the lowest level, defeating Trap Door's to get through doors.
- Take the Dark Crystal in the crystal room and just after you leave the room, you will be attacked by an Evil Wall. Destroy it before it comes too close to your party or it will crush each of them.
- Return back through the cave and just as you are leaving, Golbez will regain control of Kain and he will take the crystal from you.
- Speak to King Giott in the Dwarven Castle and inform him that you lost the last crystal. Cid will appear and add a drill to the front of the Falchon.
- Return to the hole that leads to the world above and use the drill to clear an opening.
- Fly to Mysidia and the elder will greet you at the town entrance. The elder and the people of Mysidia will keep wishing and the Big Whale will rise from the water.
- Enter the Big Whale and speak to the crystal in the middle to fly to the moon.
- Land the Big Whale on the plateau just to the northwest of the crystal building and enter the cave.
- Travel the Lunar Path around the crystal building through two tunnels and eventually you will reach the crystal building.
- Enter Lunar's Lair and FuSoYa the Lunar will join your party.
- Return to your ship and fly back to the earth.
- When you return to the earth, you will discover that you are too late. And the Giant of Bal-il will appear and start causing destruction. Your friends will all appear and start to battle the giant. Cid will bring your party to the giant's mouth.
- Make your way through the giant and just after the save spot, you will have to fight all four fiends over again. Use fire, ice, and lit magic to defeat them quickly.
- Continue on to its core and fight the CPU. First destroy the Defender but leave the attacker alone. If you destroy both, the CPU will restore them. After the Defender is gone, concentrate your attacks on the CPU and eventually it will be destroyed.
- Golbez will appear and FuSoYa will break Zemus' control over him. The two will go to the moon to confront Zemus.
- Enter the Big Whale and return to the moon.
- Enter the Lunar's Lair again and go into the back room with all the crystals. Speak to all the crystals and then step on the tile in the middle of the room to enter the core of the moon.
- You can find the most powerful weapons and armor in the subterranean levels of the moon. You will have to walk across an invisible bridge to find the Crystal Sword.
- Continue down to the lowest level and you arrive just in time to see Golbez and FuSoYa defeat Zemus. Zeromus will be born out of Zemus' death, however, the throw your party back. Golbez and FuSoYa will attack him but they will be defeated. Your friends back on the earth will wish for you and you and your party will regain your health. Use the crystal you receive from Golbez on Zeromus to reveal his true form. Fight him will all that you have to defeat him for good.
