Walkthrough
- You begin the game in the throne room of King Lemele. Speak to him and the other apprentices to learn more about your opposition.
- Buy equipment in the town and save your game at the inn before you leave town.
- Go south to reach the town of Rablesk. Gain in the tavern will promise to give you a map if you agree to open the Earth Gate.
- Before proceeding, it would be wise to raise several experience levels fighting enemies in the area around Rablesk.
- East from Rablesk you'll find the Castle of Aran. Defeat Romus on the top level to receive the Key of Earth. If you die while fighting him, speak to the woman in the house in the southwest corner of Rablesk to learn more about Romus and then speak to her husband outside to receive the Whistle. Use this while fighting Romus to defeat him instantly.
- Go south from Rablesk around the lake and enter the Cave of Earth. Use the Key of Earth to open the large gate inside.
- Your way through the cave will be blocked by Pison, a bounty hunter hired by one of the other apprentices. You'll have to kill him before you can continue forward.
- After exiting the cave, go south to reach the port of Bonro. You'll find some of the other apprentices in the shops and tavern in town. They may offer to join you or challenge you to a duel.
- Chase down Gain and he will give you his Map. His house in just west of the tavern.
- To the west you'll find the town of Zellis. Talk to Brantu in the inn and he will join you if you agree to help him get to Melenam.
- Journey west from Zellis to the Cave of Melenam on the western tip of the continent.
- You'll find the Wind Rune in a chest on the far east side of the first level. Use this rune in the field to move instantly to any town you have previously visited.
- On the second level, Brantu will open the door to Melenam so you may pass. There are quite a few treasures in Melenam so be sure to explore the whole area.
- Pass through Melenam and fight Red Pison in the cave just outside the second exit of Melenam.
- Continue through the cave and then go northwest to reach the town of Eygus.
- Talk to the sage in the northeast corner of the village and then go through the passage in the building behind him to return to the continent.
- Travel south from the cave exit to reach Pell.
- Go south and then east from Pell to reach the country of Guntz.
- Talk to the sage in the northwest corner of the village nine times and he will eventually agree to give you his rune if you can provide them with water.
- Return to Pell and speak to Digger Quose in the tavern. Return to Guntz with the digger and he will dig a well for the people. The sage will then give you the Water Rune.
- Follow the coast east from Guntz to find Patrof where one of the other apprentices has attacked the castle, stolen their rune, and killed many people.
- Push against the middle tombstone along the wall in the town cemetary to find a secret passage.
- Make your way through the passage to reach the castle and defeat the apprentice there to liberate the town and receive the Star Rune.
- Follow the shore northeast for a while to reach Bone.
- Talk to the boy walking in the northwest part of the town and he will ask you if he is in Bonro. If you are playing as Esuna or Lux he will ask you to take him to Bonro. Use the Wind Rune to get there quickly and then talk to his father inside the building next to the docks to receive passage on a boat to Pandam. Otherwise, the boy will give you a Remote Control.
- Use the Remote Control to open the sealed door in the Cave of Milto east of Bone. Behind the door you'll find a man who will take you to Dowaine in his submarine.
- Alternately, if you are playing as Olvan, one of the men in the southeast corner of Bone will give the Key of Brilliance. Go south, then west, and then north to find the Tower of Grime and use the key to open the gate. At the top of the tower you'll find a teleport to the North Tower which is on the north part of the continent, northwest of Padal.
- Follow the coast north from Dowaine or head northeast from Pandam to reach Belaine where you will learn that they are on the brink of war with Telaine because of an increase in the price of ore.
- Go northeast from Belaine to reach Telaine where the people are worried that their lack of ore will lead to a war with Belaine.
- Go through the cave east of Telaine to reach the Island of Beore.
- On the south side of the island you'll find the ruins of Luze. Defeat the Dragon and then search the pedestal behind him to learn that the Sky Rune has been stolen.
- Pick up one of the Crystals of Peace from the ground in Luze and show it to the king of Telaine to end the threat of war. The prices of many weapons and armor will now be lower. If you refuse to show it to the king, Belaine and Telaine will go war and prices will increase.
- The Sky Rune has been taken by one of the other apprentices who can be found randomly in one of the towns on the continent. Use the Wind Rune to go quickly from town to town and step outside the town to see in your crystal ball whether the rune is in that town. If so, search the town for the apprentice and fight him or her for it or allow them to join you if they ask. The apprentice may be found in one of the towns you haven't visited, so you won't be able to get the rune yet.
- Go west from Telaine to reach Padal where you may find Commander Prosa in the barracks. He will agree to give you his Moon Rune if you free the children kidnapped from his home town.
- You'll find Pang north of the large lake west of Belaine. If Olvan is in your party, speak to his uncle Olgan and then speak to the old man in the tavern to learn a secret password.
- In the mountains southwest from Padal there is a hidden cave. You won't be able to get past the barrier on the west side of the cave unless you learned the secret password in Pang. In the next room you'll find many valuable treasures.
The Serpent and the Kidnapped Children
- Go south from Pang and then follow the coast west to find the port town of Pandam.
- Continue to follow the coast west to reach Brush where you'll find Potion 3s in the item shop and a fortune teller that can aid you in your quest.
- Go northeast from Brush to reach the castle of Tiffana. You'll learn that their children have been kidnapped by the Serpent. The king will offer you a 5000 gold reward for the safe return of his daughter.
- Far north from Tiffana is the town of Polasu. Their children have also been kidnapped by the Serpent.
- Go to the Castle of Baran between Tiffana and Polasu and enter through the back door on the right side of the castle. Defeat the Serpent on the top floor to free the children.
- Return to Tiffana to claim your reward from the king provided you spoke to him before rescuing the children.
- The Moon Rune can be claimed in one of three ways:
- If you spoke to Command Prosa in Padal or Polasu before defeating the Serpent, speak to him again in Padal, Polasu, or Telaine to receive the rune.
- If you killed the Serpent before speaking to Prosa and have ended the fued between Belaine and Telaine, speak to Prosa in Polasu to learn that the rune has been stolen. Go to Belaine and speak to the prisoner in the castle dungeon. Agree to speak to the king on his behalf and he will give you the rune.
- If you killed the Serpent before speaking to Prosa and have not ended the fued between Belaine and Telaine, speak to Prosa in the Castle of Telaine and he will ask you to find Pegim. Speak to Pegim in the tavern in Zellis and then return to Prosa for the rune.
- Far north of Pandam, you'll find the kingdom of Bilthem. The people there have all been enthralled by Doros and will refuse to do business with you.
- Enter the castle at the top of the hill and make your way to the basement. Your way will be blocked by flames causing you to go the long way around.
- In the basement, push the table out of the way to find the Jail Key. Use it to open the last cell and speak to the old man there to receive the Star.
- Confront Doros on the top floor of the castle and use the Star to make him vulnerable to your attacks. You will receive the Light Rune once you have killed him and will free the people.
- Once you have collected the six runes, speak to the fortune teller Ralsa in Brush to learn where you have to go next.
- Speak to Brantu in his workshop in the northwest corner of Brush. He has invented a mecha glider which you can use to reach the western continent. The glider will crash land in Valenca.
- Go south from Valenca and then northeast to Kapel. Just before you reach the exit, you will be cursed and will be unable to use magic anymore.
- After you have left Kapel, go east to find the town of Bugask. Tonoka on the east side of town will suggest you go to Guanta to learn about your curse.
- Go north from Bugask to reach Guanta. The sage in the northeast corner will tell you why he cursed you and that he is unable to remove the curse.
- Enter the Cave of Silence west of Guanta and retrieve the Moonlight from its depths. Along the way, you'll come across your own grave and will have to fight Pison one more time.
- Speak to the sage in Guanta again after retrieving the Moonlight and he will lift the curse, allowing you to use magic again.
- In the far northeast corner of the continent you'll find the Cave of Baron. Defeat Monmo using magic (particularly fire spells) and continue on to Gorfun Castle.
- On the highest floor of the castle you'll face Gariso. Use the Moonlight whenever he disappears to make him reappear. After he is dead, Garsia will appear and destroy the runes. You will lose consiousness.
- You will wake up in Pharano, 5000 years in the past.
- Go south from Pharano and follow the coast southwest to reach the town of Pasanda.
- Go west from Pasanda and then north to find Ligena.
- Speak to the elder to learn more about the current situation and then enter Ropesu's house by following the outer walls from the west side of the town and north around the back of the elder's palace.
- Speak to Ropesu and ask to use his airship to reach Melenam. He will allow Esuna to travel for free, but will charge Kalim, Olvan, Lux, and Valsu 7000 gold for passage. He will refuse to take Wilme and Lejes altogether. A hidden passage to his airship can be found behind one of the bookcases in his house chosen randomly when you enter the house. Speak to the captain of the Airship and he will take you to Melenam whether you have permission from Ropesu or not.
- If Lux is in your party, speak to the inventor in one of the houses in the northwest part of Melenam to receive an upgrade. Lux will gain 30 MaxHPs and MaxMPs as well as 20 power, guard, magic, and speed. You can also buy a new weapon and armor for Lux in the weapon and armor shops.
- Go west from Melenam to reach Palsu. The woman in the southwest corner of town will give you a Letter to give to her son in Melenam.
- Return to Melenam and enter the laboratory in the southeast corner.
- Give the Letter to Tafuro and he will bring you to the inner lab.
- Speak to all the scientists and then speak to Tafuro again and he will introduce you to Dr. Fail.
- After speaking with Dr. Fail, leave Melenam. When you reenter Melenam after fighting a battle, you will hear sirens and find the people in an uproar.
- Return to the secret laboratory and fight Foma who has gotten out of control.
- Once you have defeated Foma, everyone will be evacuated from the continent before it sinks into the ocean. You will land in the Airship on a new continent.
- Travel east, then north to reach a small village of Saro's followers.
- Enter the cave to the west and defeat both Goron and Griffan to reach Saro at the back of the cave. In his dying breath he will remove the curse on the runes.
- Return to the village and collect all seven runes from Saro's followers. The runes will not have any power at this time.
- Go northeast to Gorfun Castle. Climb to the fourth floor by first climbing the stairs in the bottom left
corner of the first floor, then the stairs in the bottom right corner of the second floor, then the stairs in bottom left corner of the third floor.
(You can tell the different floors apart by noticing the positions of the Tetujin.) Enter the middle-top-right room to find
Garsia.
- To defeat Garsia you must use each of the seven runes to drain his power. The correct order is: Wizard, Light, Sky, Moon, Wind, Star, and Water.
